Free Game for PS3: DC Universe

If your like most people, you probably find video games to be a bit pricey. You also dont want to get something for cheap or free and be bored with it in a day. That is why I feel like the move to make DC Universe free online was genius. Its a game that has huge replay value and is interesting and fun enough to hold you over while you save money for your next game.

DC Universe is an MMORPG that takes place within the DC Comics world. What makes this game cool and separates it from others like World of Warcraft is that you get to create your own superhero or villian. You pick their powers and abilities, their appearance, color scheme, and costume. You cant play as favorites like Batman or Superman, but they serve as mentors to your new character. Also, your hero or villain will be surrounded by the DC Comics mythos featuring hundreds of different comic characters and many different locations.

You begin the game in either Metropolis or Gotham and quickly become involved in missions assisting various heroes, villains, mobsters, civilians or police. These missions are challenging and fun and help you level up your character. The missions get progressively harder as you level up but you should be able accomplish each one and achieve level 30.

Unlike most games which you can keep leveling to 60,70,100, or more, 30 is the max in this game. Don't worry though its not over yet. From here the single player missions stop and you are encouraged to partake in "alerts". These are large scale missions that you play with other people. Beating the alerts as well as playing in the PVP Arena will get you special currency called marks that you will need. With these marks you can then buy stronger equipment to help you progress to the harder alerts. The gear is essential to becoming stronger and moving forward in the game. Once strong enough, you can then play in "raids" which give access to the rarest equipment.

This game really has no end and gives back as much as you put in to it. It is always updating and adding new wrinkles to the game. The community is very active and people are always looking to help out with questions or missions. The one drawback is that the free access limits the money you can have, which makes it difficult to get certain items later in the game. The good news is that if you play this game and really like it, you can pay a small one time fee ($5 i believe) and get more money. There is also a further account upgrade where you have no money limits and can create your own guild.

This is a fun game that I have really enjoyed getting into. It takes a little while to really get the hang of it but it is a blast once you get going. I have played a lot of RPGs and MMORPGs and this game really stands on its own. Its not just a knockoff with superheroes and it is a nicely built game. My friends and I all enjoy playing this game and for the price you cant go wrong.
